The Rharain Fields Outpatient Eating Disorder Service works directly with people aged from 17 and a half years and above who are living with an Eating Disorder and need support in the form of assessment and treatment.
Clients may be new referrals; they may have had treatment with Rharian already from our community group programme (GIFT), or have been discharged from the day or inpatient service.
What does the Outpatient Service offer?
The treatment is highly individualised therapy and we work with people to offer support that will be most effective for them personally. This will most likely include focussing on promoting psychological and physical recovery, reaching a healthy BMI, maintaining healthy eating and treating other possible disorders such as depression, OCD, or anxiety. Our main aim is to improve quality of life.
Treatment usually consists of two sessions per week for the initial three weeks. Those sessions will then be reduced to one per week for at least 14 weeks. Dependent on the severity of symptoms treatment can last for a longer period; this will be discussed in the review at session 15.
Who does the service support?
There is an eligibility criteria that clients must meet to qualify for the service. These include:
- Clients must be 17 years and six months and above
- Clients must meet the diagnostic criteria for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder or an Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.
The exclusion criteria includes:
- Severe and florid psychosis
